If You Want to Eat Really Healthy…

Then don’t come to any parties at my house.

Seriously.

I saw the title of an article that said, “How to Have a Healthier Dinner Party” which of course I didn’t even glance at.

Because to me, a party is all about eating something different than you normally would. Something special, maybe a little decadent.

Of course if there is some sort of dietary restriction going on, then accomodations are immediately made and taken into account in the meal planning.

I have a former friend (our sons no longer go to school together, and so all have drifted apart) who was so into healthy eating that for her son’s 8th birthday party, she had unbuttered popcorn, and grapes as appetizers.  I think she did have a cake, but I was surprised that she couldn’t let go just a little bit for her son’s friends, not all of whom eat like triathletes in training.

Will I have some healthy options? Of course.  Not everything will be drenched in butter or filled to the brim with fat calories.

But will the whole meal be about being perfectly healthy and fat free?

Nope.

I’ll save that for every other day.

I’ve never left a party gushing about how amazingly healthy all the dishes were.  Maybe I’m weird.

Hmpfh, no wonder she and I are no longer friends!

52% of you have no issues with infant male circumcision, and the recent just-short-of-a-recommendation from the AAP didn’t change that.  4% admit the new findings may have changed their mind, while 14% haven’t budged in their stance against. 23% say they don’t have a horse in the race, and sometimes I wonder why I put that voting category in there.  To me, it’s just an easy way to say that you don’t know.

The Fruit Boycott of 2012

So I guess this means I should be pretty happy that my two and a half year old daughter refuses to eat any fruit in its fresh form?

She went from eating all kinds of fresh fruit to eating no kinds of fresh fruit.

It’s a phase, Glinda, it’s a phase.

At least it’s a phase where she isn’t exposing herself to organophosphate pesticides, amirite?

Awww, a full 38% of you never got to go to summer camp. Although that might be just as well, seeing as how an equal amount of you remember it as both miserable and fun.  Not exactly a rousing endorsement.  22% thought it was great, and I guess it is a good thing that no one remembers is as only miserable.

I didn’t attend a sleep away camp, but a day camp since both of my parents worked.  The only things I really remember were playing the “telephone” game, singing stupid songs which I thought were fantastic at the time, and having two boys sort of fight over me.  Now if I could only remember why…  I was a big, tall, strapping young woman who didn’t really attract male attention until high school, seeing as how I towered over most of my peers.

And now, something completely different.

Not too surprisingly, potatoes won out as your most favorite veggie. This is not hard to understand since there are so many delicious ways to eat them. Next up were asparagus and broccoli in a tie for second. Not a big broccoli fan, but give me some grilled asparagus brushed with olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt, and I’m a happy person. Eggplant and carrots were tied for third. Which was a bit shocking, as I had no idea people loved eggplant so much.

Now, you know I just have to ask about fruit.

Only 32% of you agree with Michelle Duggar about world overpopulation, and I’m not about to argue with you.  Not because I agree with you, but because I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to change your mind no matter what I said.

Today I want to know what your favorite vegetable is.  Don’t ask me why, I just do.

Never mind me over here being a bit MIA, just a bunch of things happening in a very short amount of time make for a very distracted Glinda.

47% of you saw 2011 come and go with nary a glance behind you, while it was a banner year for 21%. 21% also felt it was one of the worst. Years. Ever.

I thought towards the end of 2011 it was starting to get bad, but I think that 2012 is so far shaping up to be much worse, at least for me personally.

Sunday night we went out to eat at a restaurant where they serve a complimentary toddler plate. It came with a banana, some oranges, and some cheerios in a small stainless steel cup, the same kind they used to serve ketchup and likeminded condiments. Well, my daughter became obsessed with that cup, and anything we put in it, she would eat.

So, after not much deliberating, I stole it. Sue me. Because if I can recreate that magic even half the time, my life is ten times easier.

Hello my dears, apologies for my absence last week.  Things got a little confusing for a bit, and then sickness hit both myself and my husband at the same time.

The overwhelming consensus was that the leopard-print polyester shirt intended for teens was a big bunch of fugly, with 53% disapproving.  Another 26% felt that it was criminal to charge that much for something that looks like a bargain-bin find at the Salvation Army.  Only a small 9% total felt it was fine, or could possibly look cute on someone less than 14 years old.

As the big holidays creep ever nearer, I want to know what you do in the kitchen.
