Things I Love: My Door Monkeys

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011
By Glinda

No, no, that isn’t a typo.

I didn’t mean to type Trunk Monkeys and somehow missed by a bunch of letters.

You see, my daughter is a stubborn type of child who likes to go places where she isn’t invited, such as my bathroom or the hallway closet.

Enter the door monkey.

It is the easiest, safest type of child door “lock” I have ever had the pleasure of using. It also works double duty as a pinch guard.

You simply attach the door monkey to the door without any type of adhesive or screws (it takes about, oh,  1 second) and voila! Your doors are childproofed.

Granted, it isn’t perfect for when you desire complete privacy as there is about an inch and a half gap where the door is slightly ajar, but if I need privacy I just enter the preferred room and lock the damn door. Usually I appreciate the gap as it allows for air circulation.

These monkeys have worked flawlessly for about a year now, and the ONLY problem I can see is if your little darling decides to climb up on something and unlatch the door that way, but if you child is doing that, you have much bigger problems.

Besides, I like being able to go around the house asking everyone where the monkeys are.

Monday Teeny Poll

By Glinda

Most of you think that in favorable circumstances, it is a good idea to take your children to participate in something like Occupy Wall Street.  18% think it can turn violent too quickly, and 8% feel that no one under the age of 16 should be there. My husband and I debated on whether to take our son to the local Occupy site near us, but decided against it as we feel our toddler would not be able to handle it.  Any aspect of it, violent or not.  She’s a loose cannon, that one.

As for today’s poll, I would like to find out if you think that the recent bill signed into law here in California that schools teach about LGBT acheivements in society is something you agree with.

Celebrity Dad Faceoff 2.0

Excuse me for a second, my son just inadvertently let a carpenter bee in the house and I am FREAKING out.

I’m just going to sit here and hope that it came in because it was ready to die or something.

The lovely Hrithik, despite being a relative unknown around these here parts, was able to triumph over David Chokachi and his beach-ready physique.

Today I’ve decided to fight fire with fire and pit Hrithik against another Bollywood dad.  And I’ve also decided I need to rent me some Bollywood movies, because if these are the kind of men that are in them, they are my type of movie.  Any recommendations?

Is Beyonce Faking It?

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011
By Glinda

So these pictures have surfaced of Beyonce’s baby bump looking a bit worse for wear as she is sitting down.

And I will be honest, in the pictures it looks a little weird.  I know my baby bumps didn’t move AT ALL, no matter what I did.

I will be suspending judgement for the time being, but I did a little research and came up with this:

Beyonce on August 29, 2011 at the MTV awards.

Compare to this picture on September 7, 2011:

Now listen, I am certainly no pregnancy expert but does her bump actually look smaller in the picture taken a week after?

Maybe it was the extra fabric on the dress giving it some extra shape or something, but I will admit that it has me scratching my head a bit.  Supposedly there is a rumor floating around that she is having a surrogate carry her child.  If that is the case, which I’m not saying it is, I feel badly for her that she would feel she has to put on a charade.  Enough people use surrogates these days that I don’t see why there would be an issue.

What say you?

Pot Pops, Not My Cup of Tea

Speaking as someone who has never smoked even a tiny smidgen of a joint, (for serious) if I had seen this candy or even eaten it as a child, I highly doubt it would have led me onto the path of doing drugs.

Doing drugs just isn’t the way I roll, yo.  I don’t really even get drunk.

And yes, I am a fun person to hang out with.

That being said, I really don’t think these cannabis-shaped lollipops are a great idea.  They contain no marijuana so I don’t quite see the point, but maybe normalizing it to a younger generation is what they are trying to do?

Pot is still illegal, no matter how many people wish it wasn’t, so this would be a no for my son’s Halloween bag.

But mmmmmm, sour apple….

Monday Teeny Poll

79% of you are right handed, thus leaving the remaining voters as lefties.  Except, of course, for that troublemaker Sarah G. who had to go and muck up my EXTREMELY SCIENTIFIC poll.  Thanks for nothing, Sarah!

Ahem.

Today I’ve been thinking about the Occupy Wallstreet protests.

Oh Ryan Fitzpatrick, I am so sorry. You lost by an unseemly amount, but I’m sure it won’t be hard to take refuge in your intelligence and your so-far winning record.

Today I’ve got a brand-new dad, albeit one who you might not remember from his glory days on a little show co-starring this man/iconic recording artist in Germany.

Sure he’s cute, but is he enough to smite Hrithik?

Things I Love: The Kid Should See This

By Glinda

Seriously, the kid SHOULD see this.  My son adores this site, and I find it just as fascinating as he does.

Created by a mom and her three year old, this is something a kid could spend quite a bit of time on and learn a ton while having fun.  What could be better?  The video above is just one of the eye-popping things in store for you.

Get thee to the site and bookmark it.  Now.
