Tuesday Teeny Poll
By Glinda46% of you plan on staying with relatives for your summer vacation, and as long as you can stand each other at the end of the week, then all is good. Unfortunately, 28% don’t know what vacation I’m referring to, and 7% are doing the staycation thang. 17% are going somewhere fantastic, aaaand we are all jealous of you. Er, “we” meaning perhaps just me.
Yesterday at Barnes & Noble, I bought the Munchkin about fifty bucks worth of books. I’m all for borrowing from the library, which we do a LOT, but for certain series which I know he likes, I tend to buy them for him so that he can maintain a nice personal library. He’s a big re-reader, and I don’t ever consider buying books for him a waste of money. His sister, on the other hand, is a gleeful destroyer of books, so right now she is dealing will all hand-me-downs and whichever books my family has been unwise enough to purchase for her.

I too am a re-reader so I love to buy books and would buy all my books if I had the room and the money. I just got a Kindle which allows me to hoard books like I want to with out the space concerns.

I’ve been living in countries that don’t have great libraries, or don’t have English-language libraries, for the last few years so I download as many e-books as I can and buy “real” books whenever I’m back in the U.S. The Muffin is at a book-destroying age so we buy sturdy board books for her.

Board books are no challenge for my daughter. She has a way of bending the book bindings that ruins them completely, no matter how many times I tell her not to. But I want to keep books readily available, so there is a bit of a dilemma.

I read a lot. We don’t watch much TV – if there is a series that interests me, I borrow the DVD – so reading is my main entertainment. I do, however, buy cheap paperbacks at Goodwill so I have something for when I travel. I take those books on the plane and leave them in the airport or hotel when I am done.

There’s no way we’d get library books returned in a regular and timely fashion, so almost always buy. I like to re-read books, and I’m fine with used paperbacks. So I don’t think I spend much more than I would in late fees…
