World’s Most Forbearing Mother Discovered in Israel

In the recorded history of civilization, innumerable are the tales of maternal sacrifice and perseverence in the face of unspeakable suffering and torment. But never, my friends, have we encountered a woman like Anat’s mother.
Who is Anat? Anat is a good daughter, a loving young woman who lives in Tel Aviv and only wanted to pamper her parent. So, what did she do? She bought her mother a beautiful shiny-new mattress and threw the old one away, to surprise her.
And boy, was she ever surprised.
Not quite as surprised as Anat, though, when she found out the old mattress contained the old woman’s life savings, approximately $1million.
The Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot published a picture of the distraught daughter searching through a landfill site, having already tried the three other dumps where rubbish from her neighbourhood could have been taken.
The dump manager, Yitzhak Borba, said that his staff were helping her because she appeared “totally desperate”, but the task was complicated by 2,500 tons of new rubbish arriving every day.
The woman nobly said it could be worse: “People have to take everything in proportion and thank God for the good and the bad.”
