Monday Teeny Poll

Last week I asked about celebrity families who give huge photo-spreads and magazine covers featuring their newborns. The highest vote-getter was “it’s a free country, they can do what they want” with forty six percent of the vote. The next highest was “I’m ok with it as long as it’s for charity.”
I am in the next group, who voted that even though they felt it was sort of wrong, they couldn’t help but look. Because who doesn’t like babies? All moms like babies, and lots of other people do too, so that is exactly what the magazines are banking on. So the part of it that is strictly dollar-driven makes me a bit uncomfortable.
This week, I want to ask about teen pregnancy. There is simply no getting around the fact that the United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate of any industrialized country. In this era of supposedly open communication about sex, why do you think that is?
