Monday Teeny Poll
By GlindaLast week, I asked you what your ideal “life” situation would be. Sixty-four percent said they would most like to work part time and be home most of the time. I heartily agree. It is interesting to note that only sixteen percent felt that working full time was perfect. Sarah Palin must have been one of that sixteen percent…
So this week, I want to continue on the path so kindly begun by raincoaster with Friday’s Caption Contest. It’s about babies! Magazines! And celebrities! Because with all the heavy political talk all around us, sometimes it’s nice to just surrender yourself to the vapid. Notice though, that I said sometimes.

See, I’m kind of torn here. I don’t like the idea of people exposing their little one’s to the public for money, but I’m not sure that’s why most of them do it. (Notice I said most, not all). Think about it. Even normal parents love to show off their beautiful babies. Why should celebrities be any different? Especially when their little ones are so dang cute! And if everyone is willing to pay to see their baby, and they want to show the little one off anyway, they would be stupid to reject the money.
I like that some donate the money and others put it away for their kids later. I don’t like the idea of parents making money off their kids just for the money, but you know a lot of these people have more money than the rest of us dream about. I doubt they are doing it for the money. And I doubt the babies themselves will be freaked out by the cameras. Nine out of ten newborns have to deal with excessive camera flashes from day one. It’s the Larry Birkheads I’m completely against. Yuck.
Okay, getting off my soap box now.

I feel like the press is going to be hounding them anyway, so at least this way they maintain at least a bit of control over the situation. Most of these people are SO RICH, that I honestly doubt that the money is much of a factor for them, if any. Yes, they want to be paid, but most of them donate it anyway. As I said, I just think it’s a way of controlling the paparazzi as much as they can. Which isn’t much.

It’s more a question of “should they” than “can they” True this is America and you can do what you want, to a degree. However, “should they” as a moral issue. In my opinion, no, I don’t think so. Especially since a year from now some of these Daddys will be punching out the paparazzi for daring to photograph their little ones. Let them send pics to their friends on Snapfish, but there’s just something wrong about featuring your children on the cover of a national rag. Smacks too much of “Mommie Dearest”.

It’s possible to say yes, they’re morally perfectly free to do this and keep the money if they want, and I am perfectly content to decide they are irredeemably vulgar for doing so.
Which I do.
