Hot Mama Tip
By GlindaMost of the time, you don’t really think about your eyebrows. They tend to be some of the most neglected hairs on your body. But if they don’t look great, then it can really affect how you look.
You are asking yourself, and how do you know that Glinda?
Because for my sister’s wedding almost ten years ago, I had the bright idea of tweezing my eyebrows for the big day, as I was the maid of honor. I am actually blessed with really good eyebrows that need minimal upkeep, but for some reason, I decided more upkeep equaled better upkeep, and began tweezing away. And tweezing away some more. Just to even it out, you know?
Now, forever immortalized in her wedding pictures are my sparse, very thin brows that remind me of when guys half-heartedly grow those moustaches that are all thin and scraggly. You know the ones I’m talking about. But, these happened to be above my eyes. You can imagine how not flattering that was.
If only I had access back then to this kit by Bare Escentuals, the trauma could have been averted.
Instead of using pencil, which I have never bothered using because I always thought it looked fake, (or at the very least, required great skill not to look fake) this kit uses a brush and powder to help you fill in, shape, and make the most of your brows. Also included is brow gel to tame those unruly strays.
I wouldn’t say that this is for everyday use, but from what I hear, it can get a bit addicting because you see how fab you look with it, so you want to use it for more than just special occasions. Like all Bare Escentuals products, it comes in a nice array of different shades to complement all skin colors.

Smashbox makes another great brow product. It’s especially good for people like me who have eyebrows that fade away to nothing at the outer edges!

For years I’ve used dark brown eyeshadow and a brush to give myself eyebrows. This is because I only have about five hairs in each eyebrow. Three are normal, one reaches over to my ear, and the other one is grey and gets plucked. I might just try this product. (I am an expert in making eyebrows not look too fake, and have never found a pencil that does the trick.)

When my sister was in seventh grade she put Nair on her eyebrows, so I think I have a good visual of how you looked at your sister’s wedding. I cringe at the opposite problem–old photos of me with hefty brows. Please won’t you post a picture (even if just of the brows)?
Having said that, well-maintained brows really change a look for the better. That Bare Escentuals kit is awesome. I also like Benefit’s BrowZing. Totally worth it.

I tried out a product by Damone (you know, that fellow who does the makeup on TLC’s “Ten Years Younger”, called “Brow Gain”. I overplucked my eyebrows back in the mid-1990’s, and had given up all hope. I’ve used a whole tube of this stuff, and while it’s not a dramatic change, there IS growth there that wasn’t there before. The ends of my eyebrows aren’t as spindly-looking. It’s pricey ($50/tube!), but if you have crazy-thin eyebrows like mine, even a little bit of improvement is miraculous.
