Who’s That Girl? Your guesses, please

By raincoaster

Minnie Mouse?

What a sweet little tyke she was, back in the day. Now she’s rich and (in)famous. Who’s that girl? Your guesses in the comments, please. If you want to totally spoil the surprise, click on the picture and find out the answer.

  1. Glinda Says:

Oooh, I knew without having to look! Do I get extra points for that?

  2. raincoaster Says:

Yes, your prize money is DOUBLED!

Was it really that easy? Sheesh, I gotta ramp it up for you people.

  3. Askimagine Says:

This game was fun, but the site you linked to is just plain mean. Not in the spirit of Manolo at all – it’s the opposite of “gently making fun of the famous.”

  4. raincoaster Says:

Well it’s not a Manolo site. To me, giving credit to the source outranks being nice to celebrities. Those guys posted the pictures, so they get the credit. I treat celebrities the same way I treat other people, which probably explains why I’m still poor.

  5. Liz Says:

I didn’t click on the picture, so I will take a guess…Amy Winehouse? I thought about guessing Britney, but the hair is so dark.

  6. raincoaster Says:

I really do have to up my game for you lot. Although Britney used to be a brunette, back in the day when her hair was natural…like, the 20th Century. Still, not that dark.

    Wasn’t she a cutie?

  7. Daniela Says:

    Oh, it’s dear Amy!
But I cheated… seen this picture somewhere else last week…

  8. Manolo the Shoeblogger Says:

This picture broke the Manolo’s heart, almost brought him to tears, especially when it was shown next to the most recent pictures of the adult Amy Winehouse.

But this is the nature of the child to adult transition, no? Often, things do not turn out as one would wish.

By the way, the Manolo has just read Jane Gardam’s marvelous book Old Filth in which she quote the inscription on the statue in the Inns of Court in London, “Lawyers, I suppose, were children once.”

    Besos!
    Manolo

P.S. Yes, the DListed is not in the spirit of the Manolo, but the Raincoaster is correct, internet protocol demands proper credit be given.

  9. raincoaster Says:

Ah, the Manolo is a big softie, and that’s why we love him.

I find the picture in context poignant, but not hopeless. After all, anyone who’d laid eyes on the teenage wreck of an anorexic junkie that was Angelina Jolie would never have expected her to live this long, let alone take up an important humanitarian role and become a responsible parent in a long-term relationship. Winehouse is younger than Paris Hilton; she’s not finished her growing up yet. I have hopes that she’ll live to a ripe old age as a Grande Dame in the Nina Simone mold, scaring the bejeezus out of the young whippersnappers who dare to point out the bats in her beehive.

  10. Annalucia Says:

The Glinda said, “Oooh, I knew without having to look! Do I get extra points for that?” The Annalucia, on the other hand, clicked on the picture and still was none the wiser. She has never heard of this young lady though she can guess her history from the other comments here.

Ah well. Let us hope that the young Amy recovers from her present difficulties and goes on to live a long and happy life.

  11. raincoaster Says:

An artist should always speak for herself, so here is a video of Amy Winehouse doing her thing (and you can read between the lines to see the other things she does…the lines tattooed all over her body, that is).

  12. Sarah in Israel Says:

Woo hoo! I knew without looking! Give me a door prize!

  13. raincoaster Says:

As with Glinda, you too will have DOUBLE the prize money! Let no one say we play favorites!
