Monday Teeny Poll

Oooh! Last week’s poll about watching movies at the theater wound up with a tie!  I don’t ever remember that happening. People, you know my life is in need of a change when I get excited over a tie.

27% of you enjoy seeing movies at a theater, and another 27% would enjoy it more often if it didn’t cost quite so much money.  Seriously, I think ticket prices, at least in my neck of the woods, are a little out of hand.  20% only like to shell out the dough to see certain types of movies, and 17% would rather wait on it to watch at home.  And that leaves 6% of you who don’t really like watching movies that much at all.

Today I’ve got an admittedly odd question, but I wanted to get a larger sample size than just my friends.  You see, I recently went out to dinner, and we planned on seeing a movie afterwards.  I had enough of my meal left over to take home, but I waffled because I don’t like to eat food that has been sitting unrefrigerated for more than a couple of hours.  One of my fellow diners thought this was ridiculous and offered to take my leftovers for themselves.  And they did.  And they claimed to have no ill aftereffects.  Allegedly.

Do polls fill you with inexplicable joy? I’ve got another one at Manolo Beauty!

Monday Teeny Poll

48% of you don’t mind baby showers, as long as you are good friends with the mother-to-be. The rest of the time, not so much. 28% are fine as long as they are not forced to play Baby Bingo and that game where you stick your hand in a bucket and try to identify as many objects in it as you can.  I hate that game.  Ahem.  16% loathe baby showers, and 8% of you prefer to share the pain at co-ed showers.  It is very telling that NOT ONE PERSON said they enjoyed going to baby showers.  I must ponder this.

So far this summer, I have seen exactly one movie in theaters.   It happened to be Bridesmaids, which I highly recommend.  But for almost everything else, I’m going to sit it out and wait for it to come to cable, or at the very least, video on demand.

Monday Teeny Poll

Last week I asked what you thought about the attempt to make circumcising infant males illegal, and a fairly overwhelming majority of 86% felt that it was an issue that should not be legislated.  Only 10% felt that it should be made illegal, and I have to admit that I side with the majority on this.  I know there is the argument that it is an unnecessary surgical procedure performed on an infant without their consent (which is sort of par for the course for infants) but it is also a religious/cultural thing for many, and I personally don’t feel comfortable stepping over that line and suddenly making an important religious ritual illegal.  Just my two cents.

Today I RSVP’d for a baby shower for someone I don’t know that well.  Her mother is a good friend of my MIL’s and she is a sweet person, I just feel a teensy bit awkward because the last time I saw them was my wedding, almost ten years ago.  However, obligations are obligations.

Monday Teeny Poll

It seems that 40% of you operate the same way that I do by buying a select few books and borrowing the rest.  I simply do not have enough room to own that many books, and I probably would not want to keep every book I read for forever, either.  But a comparitively large number of you, 36% exclusively buy your books, and kudos to you for finding a place to put them all!  16% do an equal amount of borrowing and buying, and 8% exclusively borrow.  Hey, as long as people are actually still reading books, I’m all for it.

I’ve ignored the proposed legal bans on circumcision long enough, and so today I”m going to find out your opinion.

Tuesday Teeny Poll

46% of you plan on staying with relatives for your summer vacation, and as long as you can stand each other at the end of the week, then all is good.  Unfortunately, 28% don’t know what vacation I’m referring to, and 7% are doing the staycation thang.  17% are going somewhere fantastic, aaaand we are all jealous of you.  Er, “we” meaning perhaps just me.

Yesterday at Barnes & Noble, I bought the Munchkin about fifty bucks worth of books.  I’m all for borrowing from the library, which we do a LOT, but for certain series which I know he likes, I tend to buy them for him so that he can maintain a nice personal library.  He’s a big re-reader, and I don’t ever consider buying books for him a waste of money.  His sister, on the other hand, is a gleeful destroyer of books, so right now she is dealing will all hand-me-downs and whichever books my family has been unwise enough to purchase for her.

Monday Teeny Poll

It seems that 43% of you hate housework as much as I do, but unfortunately, aren’t able to have someone come in and do it for you.  I remember when we put our home up for sale when I was six months pregnant (stupid, yes!) and for the six weeks or so it took to sell it, we had a cleaning crew come in every week because there was no way I could keep the house in good enough shape to show it.  And it was heavenly.   15% of you try not to stress out about it, 12% of you do have someone come in to clean for you, and 6% fear that “Hoarders” will be knocking on their door at any moment.  Only 3% of you actually like cleaning, and now I know why all of us get along so well!

Today I’m all about the travel plans.  Or possible lack thereof.  Some friends of ours are going on a Disney Cruise around the Mediterranean this summer, and I have to admit I’m a teensy bit jealous.

Monday Teeny Poll

Maybe it is due to the year-round termperate weather where I live, but not a single one of you uses your garage as a rec/play room.  I suppose though, that we don’t have basements where I live either, so that might have something to do with it.  45% of you keep your car in the garage, mostly due to weather issues, and 33% just have “stuff.”  A couple I know keeps their $60,000+ car in the driveway so that they can keep their $5,000 (max) amount of stuff in the garage.  This, it makes no sense to me.  22% do not have a garage, and in a way, you are lucky because they are junk magnets, to be sure.  My husband was so proud of himself for clearing the garage this weekend and we actually have one of our cars inside of it! Whoo hoo!  Well, for him, anyway…

Today I want to find out how you feel about cleaning your home.

Monday Teeny Poll

Apparently I take life much too seriously as 74% of you said that people who think young “scowling flowergirl” being posted all over the internet is no big whoop.   There is no doubt that Grace Van Cutsem and that photo are as precious as they come, but I can’t help but wonder if when she is grown up she will be offended at all the places people chose to put her, or if she will think it is a riot.  Or maybe she will need years of therapy, who knows?

And that, my friends, is why I don’t put up pictures of my kids on the internets.  Because I just don’t know.

But, this week’s poll beckons.

In my suburban neighborhood, I would say that a full 75% of the garages have never held a car.  Some people have turned them into rec rooms, complete with sofas and big screen televisions.  Others, like my next door neighbor, transformed theirs into a playroom for theirdaughter.  Oh, there is a couch in there, too.  Others, like ourselves, just have some random stuff piled everywhere, but no car.

For that, I plead the insanity of moving with a three month old, and never being able to recover.  We’ve got the house in order, but the garage is a mess.  We aspire to having at least one of our cars in there, and can hopefully do so within the next month. She said optimistically.
