Hot Mama Tip: Lucky Scent

By Glinda

I admit, I loves me some good perfume. I am a bit of a perfume snob at times, and I realized at a very young age the power of a fantastic perfume.

One site that intrigues me is Lucky Scent. They deal with exclusive and hard-to-find perfumes, many of them European.

But, I’m sure you would be hesitant to fork over the moolah for a scent that you can’t try out, right? Or maybe you like to have all kinds of perfumes to fit your mood that day.

Therein lies the beauty of the site. They allow you to buy samples of the scent that catches your eye, most being either three or four dollars. So, for twenty bucks you can try out at least five lovely perfumes! And even though they are smaller sample sizes, I happen to know that you can eke those out for quite a long time, especially if it’s a high quality fragrance.

The site even has a handy-dandy scent-finder, where you can narrow your search down to brands, keywords, and even notes. Superfantastic!

Pretty in Pink

I’m a child of the Eighties, and as such, doomed to use that for a title any darn time it’s even slightly appropriate. And my friends, it has never been more appropriate than it is today.

Normally I have an eternal tomboy’s visceral resistance to Pinkness, both as a colour scheme and as the bizarre cult which has seemingly seized control of every female under the age of ten, at least if the mall is anything to go on and I think it is. I am, it must be admitted, rather fond of the singer; I enjoy her voice very much although I confess I cannot understand a single word she is singing, something which surely influences why all those songs about her husband don’t seem to affect him very much, and that’s probably all to the better.

But Pinkness has its time and its place, and as its time appears to be now, so its place is here, at the flagship Barbie store in Shanghai. It is nothing short of the Superfantastic!

A piercingly-pink exterior:

A spiral staircase with 800 pink-clad Barbies:

Barbie Store Stairwell

And, should the sight of that much overwhelming Barbitude and Pinkitude prove too much for one, one can restore or perhaps lose (your choice) one’s equilibrium at the bar (all stores should have these, with a daycare next door; it makes shopping so much more civilized), and then take the pinkest escalator on Earth back down to harsh reality.

Irish Bull

Yes, yes, I know, I’ve become the Queen of YouTube lately, but I can’t help myself. In fact, I defy you to watch the following video and say it isn’t absolutely priceless.

Not only does it have an impeccable media pedigree, coming as it does from the esteemed Guardian (not even slightly peccable, I don’t care who you are!) but it also brings to life an amusing cliche, if obliquely.

So maybe it’s not a bull in a china shop; it’s funnier! It’s a bull in an Irish grocery store frightening all the staff, who then summon (who else?) the butcher to deal with him.

And you just know he thought they were busting his chops.

But my goodness, the Manolosphere is having problems, isn’t it?

It’s gotta be raincoaster and those darn Jesus posts. Jesus will get you every time.

Kidding! Kidding! Lord knows we don’t need any more problems, right?

Listen, I’ve got the best Hot Mama Tip there is, a fifteen percent off code for Sephora. This can be used online, but only toward the purchase of products, not gift cards or e-cards or things of that ilk.

As you know, Sephora rarely has sales, so this one is definitely one to jump on. It expires on April 21, 2009.

Enter code BD2T9CB5 at checkout, and have fun!

I just restocked on some Bare Escentuals, and now I’m ready for summer.

Hot Mama Tip: Cargo Lip Gloss

By Glinda

Although I normally consider myself a liptsick gal, I make an exception for CARGO Lip Gloss.

It comes in a convenient, easily transportable tin that houses not one, but two colors of lip gloss. The great thing is that each color coordinates with the other, if so desired. Or, you can wear them one at a time, it’s up to you. You can choose the tin that focuses on the hue combination you’re looking for, whether it’s berries or pinks or mauves.

The gloss goes on lightly and is non-sticky. My only complaint is that I wished it lasted a wee bit longer. But, you get lots of product in each tin, so it really does take a long time to run out! The gloss is priced well at $14.00, which sounds like a lot, but the tins are really big, so it’s actually a pretty good deal.

Or, if you really want to go wild, you can opt for the CARGO Lip Gloss Quads.

Hot Mama Tip: Coral is Hot for Spring

Sunday, April 5th, 2009
By Glinda

In times of economic uncertainty, people tend to gravitate towards color. Colors are a quick, easy, and cheap way to get a psychological pick-me up. This spring is no exception, with coral being one of the season’s most popular color choices.

One of the newer colors in Benefit’s arsenal is Coralista, which is an all-over powder for your face that will give you a sun-kissed glow wherever you choose to put it.

Fresh Sugar Lipgloss in Sugar Glory is another lovely coral, which will give you a pop of color, but is nice and sheer. For colors like coral, I prefer gloss to lipstick, as coral can be a whole lotta color.

Yves Saint Laurent GLOSS is another coral, this one being a bit brighter than the one by Fresh Sugar. A bit more “coral-ly” if you will.

*note: the pictures of the two glosses are not representative of the color suggestions. I couldn’t find any! You’ll have to go to the site to see the actual colors.
