Hot Mama Tip: DiorKiss

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009
By Glinda

Summer is pretty much here, and most people tend to chuck their lipsticks and gravitate to lighter lip glosses during hot weather. One of the newest and best out there is from Dior, that classic French fashion house that manages to crank out beauty faves almost every season.

This summer is no different, with the introduction of DiorKiss. DiorKiss is a light, long-lasting gloss that not only aims to plump your lips, but manages to smell heavenly too. It’s easy to guess the scents from the names, with examples like Strawberry Smoothie (a classic, flattering red) and Pineapple Cocktail (a shimmery ivory-beige).

It also has a nicely curved applicator, instead of the wands that tend to get a little droopy after a while.

Me? I’m a sucker for anything that smells good that happens to reside directly underneath my nose.

Hot Mama Tip: A Dubious Product

Who did not love Redd Fox in Sanford and Son? For anyone growing up in the 70’s, Sanford and Son was must-see-tv and the show revolved around the talented comedy stylings of Redd Fox. Garbage men (or as they would probably be called now “recyclers”) had never been so entertaining!

That being said, when I saw the following products on Amazon, I had to do a bit of a double take.

And while the genius of Redd Fox is indisputable, is this really the image you want your customer to have in mind when they think of your beauty product?

But my goodness, the Manolosphere is having problems, isn’t it?

It’s gotta be raincoaster and those darn Jesus posts. Jesus will get you every time.

Kidding! Kidding! Lord knows we don’t need any more problems, right?

Listen, I’ve got the best Hot Mama Tip there is, a fifteen percent off code for Sephora. This can be used online, but only toward the purchase of products, not gift cards or e-cards or things of that ilk.

As you know, Sephora rarely has sales, so this one is definitely one to jump on. It expires on April 21, 2009.

Enter code BD2T9CB5 at checkout, and have fun!

I just restocked on some Bare Escentuals, and now I’m ready for summer.

Hot Mama Tip: Cargo Lip Gloss

By Glinda

Although I normally consider myself a liptsick gal, I make an exception for CARGO Lip Gloss.

It comes in a convenient, easily transportable tin that houses not one, but two colors of lip gloss. The great thing is that each color coordinates with the other, if so desired. Or, you can wear them one at a time, it’s up to you. You can choose the tin that focuses on the hue combination you’re looking for, whether it’s berries or pinks or mauves.

The gloss goes on lightly and is non-sticky. My only complaint is that I wished it lasted a wee bit longer. But, you get lots of product in each tin, so it really does take a long time to run out! The gloss is priced well at $14.00, which sounds like a lot, but the tins are really big, so it’s actually a pretty good deal.

Hot Mama Tip: Coral is Hot for Spring

Sunday, April 5th, 2009
By Glinda

In times of economic uncertainty, people tend to gravitate towards color. Colors are a quick, easy, and cheap way to get a psychological pick-me up. This spring is no exception, with coral being one of the season’s most popular color choices.

Photobucket

One of the newer colors in Benefit’s arsenal is Coralista, which is an all-over powder for your face that will give you a sun-kissed glow wherever you choose to put it.

Photobucket

Fresh Sugar Lipgloss in Sugar Glory is another lovely coral, which will give you a pop of color, but is nice and sheer. For colors like coral, I prefer gloss to lipstick, as coral can be a whole lotta color.

Photobucket

Yves Saint Laurent GLOSS is another coral, this one being a bit brighter than the one by Fresh Sugar. A bit more “coral-ly” if you will.

*note: the pictures of the two glosses are not representative of the color suggestions. I couldn’t find any! You’ll have to go to the site to see the actual colors.

This perfumer comes to you straight from France, and they specialize in adorable lipstick-sized tubes of solid fragrances. Solid, addicting fragrances, that is. Use them individually, or mix and match by layering them, it’s all good.

Crazylibellule and the Poppies perfumes are made with all natural ingredients, and are nicely priced for a splurge under twenty dollars.

Hot Mama Tip: Urban Decay Pocket Rocket

By Glinda

Ahem, we’re starting the weekend off pretty racy, aren’t we? But hey, that’s how Glinda rolls.

Today, I will be honest in saying I have no idea if these Pocket Rocket lip glosses are actually any good (although since they are Urban Decay, I’m betting they are). No, what I’m interested in is the packaging, my friends.

Each lip gloss has a holographic picture of a hot guy. When the mood strikes you, a simple flick of the wrist will undress your chosen boy toy. Supposedly it’s got pheromones in it or something, blah blah blah. All I care about are the dudes.

It’s about damn time we got something like this, isn’t it ladies? Here is a sampling of some of the man cake.

Perhaps a little David to get your pulse going?

Or maybe some Doug to rock your world?

How’s about some James?

And finally, my favorite, Timothy. I’ve always had a thing for preppy guys with ripped abs.

Hot Mama Tip: MAC Hello Kitty

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

I know, I know. There is this odd trend in makeup lately that keeps returning to old 80’s cartoon characters. Why? Nostalgia? Boredom? Because the 80’s are cool again? That might very well be, since earlier this week I saw a mohawked, Doc-Martened young man that was a dead ringer for another young man I used to know. Back in high school.

Anyhoo, for whatever reason, MAC has decided to use that round-cheeked, be-bowed Japanese icon for their newest makeup line. I remember being in elementary school when Hello Kitty was just starting to be a hit, and every girl who was worth her salt had a soft sided Hello Kitty pencil case.

But, enough of the trip down memory lane, let’s get to the line.

There are two main concepts in the line, Hello Kitty Mild and Hello Kitty Wild. With the idea being that the mild is for a more everyday look, and the wild for clubbing or dates or perhaps pole dancing classes. Or maybe your daily look is that of a pole dancer, and then you’ve got a dilemma on your hands.

Let me say that I’ve never been a MAC convert. I think I was too old when they started up, and although they’ve always had a very loyal and arty following, I’ve never been among them.

So perhaps I am just jaded in thinking that the colors are a bit outlandish, even for every day wear and that it is more about the accessories and the Hello Kitty logo on the makeup applicators/cases. With cutesy names like “Glitterpuss,” “Kitty Power,” and “Glamor Mews” they are almost going a bit overboard on the cute. Like, gag me with a spoon. And all you eighties people will know exactly what I just said.

The line is reasonably priced, so if you really like Hello Kitty and bright colors, then this line will make you very happy.

And I will leave you with the creeptastic bondage-fest that is this conceptual video brought to you by the good folks at the MAC marketing department. Which is apparently full of some seriously disturbed minds. NSFW or for kids!
