Monday Teeny Poll

Middle school. That’s when most of you (29%) had your first kiss. The parent in me hopes that it was the closer end to high school. And actually, high school was a very close second, being only two percentage points behind. My first kiss was indeed as a freshman in high school, and it was the older cousin of my then-best friend. We were at a school dance and he took me out to the water fountains, had a drink, and then said something like, “I’d like to drink you” or some such thing that sounded like a smooth and suave segue to his ears at the time. Being that he was really cute, I scintillatingly replied, “Uhhh, sure” and we proceeded to make out a little heavier than most first kisses, I thnk. But I’m sure he had no clue it was my first, and did I mention he was really, really cute?

Today I have a burning fashion question. I’ve been watching Project Runway, and there has been rather a lot of the type of clothing shown above worn by a couple of the male contestants. And no, I’m not referring to the silk turban.

Emmy Red Carpet Winner- Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka

I love everything about this, from the Audrey Hepburn hair down to the delicate heels. Perfect!

Those crazy teens acting like vampires.  Was I really ever that stupid? Wait, don’t answer that.

A babysitting job from hell.

Ten Iconic Animated Character Dresses

The other day I was browsing around and stumbled upon a “famous dresses” list from movies. It included the white dress Marilyn Monroe in The Seven Year Itch and of course, Audrey Hepburn’s black dress from Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Then I got to thinking, what about dresses that adorn animated characters? I would actually argue that they are more instantly recognizable than almost all of the movie dresses.

Here’s my list:

Minnie Mouse

Nobody rocks the polka dots quite like Minnie.

Cinderella

Worn by little girls the world over.

Wilma Flintstone

Stone “pearls” and animal fur equals yabba dabba do!

Belle

She wore this in the famous dance scene, the one where everyone is thinking the Prince looked better as the Beast.

St Angelina Jolie, patron saint of…

Angelina Breastfeeding Statue

Judging by this new Daniel Edwards sculpture, it’s either breastfeeding, really bad portraits, or post-partum depression.

Monday Teeny Poll

50% of you think that Christmas displays should be banned from stores altogether until after Thanksgiving. I heartily agree. I understand that it is the time when stores make the most money, but that doesn’t mean they have to shove it down my throat six months in advance. It’s not like I see a display and think, “Oh yeah, I forgot all about Christmas this year!” Stores would probably do well and take a hint. 38% of you just hate them outright, and a small minority of 11% actually enjoy them. Hmmph.

This week, I’m all about the fashion.

Sunday Buffet Brunch

Again with the 80′s. I can’t help myself.

Drop-side cribs = banned.

Neck circumference measurements for kids instead of BMI?

OK, because Inception is out and I have this thing for Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  Which makes me feel ooogie because he’s awfully young.

Nance wonders about “The Biggest Moments in Bras.”

Preschool = good thing.

Today is National Ice Cream Day!

Lolebrity has a little Lil’ Wayne.

Hard Life Lessons Learned at the Tender Age of Seven

I had hoped that he wouldn’t find out until he was older.

I warned him about what would happen, but I suppose it was inevitable.

Yesterday, my son experienced for the first time one of the most difficult truths in life.

He was upset.  I put my hands upon his shoulders and squeezed, for I knew very well the disappointment he was feeling.

“Son,” I said in my most sympathetic of motherly tones, “The movie is NEVER as good as the book.”
