Monday Teeny Poll

OK, so I am missing half of an important organ, but I’m back!  No cancer was found and despite the fact that my neck bore an uncanny resemblance to that of Jabba the Hut for a good four days, I’m doing well.

My last poll was about a school’s decision to ban Uggs because students were storing contraband in them, and 38% thought it was a pretty good idea.  33% thought it wasn’t, and 28% felt that there must have been something better to ban.

Today I’m all about bullets in laptops.

Well, at least when it comes to this video of a North Carolina father reacting to his daughter’s Facebook rant about her life.

    Cancer? What?

    I’m very glad it’s not.

I am glad it is not cancer even if you had to look like Jabba the Hut to find that out.

On topic: That man is my hero! If is nice seeing a parent with high expectations of his child following through on punishment. If my kid disrespected me on facebook with a laptop I got for them you can be sure I will ensure that it does not happen again. I love that he is making her buy a replacement laptop if she wants one.

Glinda, so glad you are cancer-free! I hope you are feeling better!

And the video, I think it’s hysterical. I think the young woman has learned a valuable life lesson — perhaps several, the top of which would be — uh, nothing on the internet is private. If you dad is IT, wouldn’t be posting those rants.

While many might cheer for the message, which is to put that “out-of-control” teen in her place, realistically the dad’s actions just up the ante and create an even bigger wedge between parent and child. He’s supposed to be the grownup. I predict the girl will go to greater lengths to rebel, she will be deemed uncontrollable while her parents talk about how they’ve given her everything and she’s just an ingrate, and an opportunity to repair an apparently very fractured relationship will be lost, possibly forever, but maybe just for the next 20 years. And why? Because both sides want power and think it’s more important to score a victory (whatever that means) than to try to figure out how to actually live together peacefully. Yes, the kid sounds like a huge pain in the ass, but she didn’t magically wake up that way one day. At least that’s how it looks from over here.

    More importantly, I’m glad you’re cancer-free!

So glad you are cancer free! I’m battling Grave’s Disease myself and there is nothing good about issues with your thyroid. Jacks with your entire body. Here’s hoping you are on the mend!!
