Monday Teeny Poll

A full sixty-five percent of you claimed that you are only moderately addicted to the intenet, and only fifteen percent were completely honest and said they were totally addicted. Bravo to you, my friends, and maybe you should form a support group. Eleven percent of you lied through your teeth and said you could totally walk away at any time, and I don’t believe you.

I would say that I’m somewhat addicted, although much of my surfing I can mask as “research” for my job here, and then I feel totally justified in looking at all the celebrity baby photos. If my husband complains about the time I’m spending, I simply hiss, “It’s for the blog” and he immediately shuts up. It’s nice.

Anyhoo, it’s been a really long time since I last cut my hair thanks to the baby, and it is really long. Like, down past my bra line. But, I’m going to be 39 in a month or so (yes, I’m a Pisces and I’m very sensitive) and I have an infant and I’m wondering if I should cut it fairly short. If I cut it at about chin length, I would have more than enough hair to donate. Am I fooling myself about my long hair looking good on me still?*

*This picture is not up there to imply that I, in any way, look like Christie Brinkley.

Really is depends on your tolerance for having your hair painfully yanked. I decided not to chop it off this time around and have been wearing a lot of braids and ponytails. That also helps keep my hair in the winter hats I have to wear. I plan on keeping my hair long even when I am an old granny, screw those people that think women of a certain age have to have short hair.

It totally depends. Does it look good? Do you like how it looks? If you like it and it looks good and you are not mutton dressing as lamb, then keep it. It’s your hair.

BTW, you are under no obligation to cut it off to donate it just because you have it.

Avoid the Suburban Soccer Mom look. Even suburban soccer moms should avoid that look; it goes with Mom jeans and sexual defeatism.

That said, you can have hair any length you want. Just for god’s sake avoid our generation’s version of the poodle perm all our moms had back in the 70′s.

Don’t cut your hair off! If it looks good, that is. So many women chop their hair off when they have a baby in the idea that it’s “easier,” although I personally think long hair is easier. If it doesn’t look good, you can stick it in a ponytail or other updo. When I had short hair, I was always fluffing it and fiddling with it. Yes, babies pull your hair a bit, but that’s what ponytails are for. And right now my toddler is fascinated by my long hair, she likes to stroke it and pat it. BTW, I’m 43 years old and don’t plan on cutting my hair any time soon. When I get older, it will either be pulled back or cut back to shoulder-length.

Well, I think it looks good and my husband loves it, but it’s just one of those things where I wonder if I’m like the people on What Not to Wear who look in the mirror and don’t see anything wrong.

Don’t chop it off thinking it’ll be easier. It won’t. I did that, and I STILL can’t wear it down because it’s still long enough for Sam to grab (or puke into), but it’s barely long enough to scrape back into a ponytail, which means that I have chunks of hair falling into my face all day long. It’s the worst of both worlds.

Keep it long until the baby’s older, and then decide from there. The infant years are no time to make major decisions regarding hair. Just resign yourself to constant ponytails and braids, and think “This too, shall pass.” Once the baby’s out of the grabby/pukey phase, you can still keep your hair long as long as it has an actual STYLE, and isn’t the long, pyramid-shaped, frizzy mess we so often see on What Not To Wear.

    Have you tried this:

    http://www.dailymakeover.com/

You can upload a picture and see how it looks with different hairstyles and makeup. There must be a dozen of these online.

I’m fifty-two years old, and my hair in its French braid goes tap-tap-tap on my backside when I walk. If long hair looks good on you, then long hair looks good on you. You like it and your husband loves it – those are the two most important voters in Glinda’s World Of Hair, as far as I can tell.
