A pair of red satin kitten heeled mules with tiny embroidered angels at a Barney's warehouse sale 16 or 17 years ago. They were in the $60 - $80 range so too rich for this then-grad student. They might have been a frivolous buy but I would have loved wearing them. I probably would have only worn them a few times and I had a total-loss house fire so they would have been crispy kindling. But I still think about those shoes!! They have become my standard for questionable purchases. If I don't buy this [insert item here], will I regret it as much as not buying the angel mules? This has provided excellent shopping guidance over the years.

In Chicago....Nordstrom's Rack.... Manolo's "Friend" talked me out of them because I was poor. Isn't that why God invented charge cards?

I bought my mom a pair of Stuart Weitzman jelly shoes with crystals (really, they were very cool) on sale for her birthday. I had been lusting after them myself, but could not justify paying that much money for two pairs of shoes. Now I get jealous whenever mom wears them.
