Lunchboxes of the World

It can be said, convincingly I think, too, that a culture expresses itself most eloquently not through its literature or its music, but through its cuisine. An army marches on its stomach, and if its stomach has nothing but string cheese and Gummi Worms in it, that army is going to march straight into diabetes and early retirement. So let us look at two solutions for the universal dilemma of the lunchbox, and how they each express the culture from which they sprang:
American ingenuity never rests, but constantly seeks new outlets for the relentless churning of progress. It would be, were it a person, one of those people who starts the day with a Triple Americano and moves on to just grinding espresso beans between its teeth as the workday goes on. And so, in the time-crunched, convenience-focused American lunchbox, what is the latest innovation?
Pre-wrapped peanut butter slices:
We at the ol’ TeenyManolo blog have long been on the forefront of peanut butter technology reportage, and this (from Neatorama) is no exception. You can buy them at these stores, if you must.
Here, on the other hand, is a fresh bakery snack from Finland (via WOWReport) which emphasizes not only carbohydrates but also a certain “Scandinavian” mindset if you know what I mean, nudge nudge. One we here at TeenyManolo would like to encourage. Wasn’t it the great PJ O’Rourke who said, “If it smells like a fish, eat it”?
