I adore Miyazaki's movies. My favorite is the Red Pig. I thought it was done in such a lovely, wistful way. I also loved his Rupin series. Totoro broke my heart - little Mei was so, so real.

OMG, I was given My Neighbor Totoro as a gift at the worst possible time: my own mother had just died of cancer at age 51. That was in 2002, and I have still not gone back to try and re-watch the movie. It was just so painfully not fair that they had Happily Ever After and I didn't.

I'm sure it's an awesome movie if you're not carrying baggage like that, though.

Yes, yes--excellent choices all. I could watch Kiki's Delivery Service over and over and over, and I'd never get tired of Phil Hartman as Gigi the cat. And speaking of cats, I'd like to add Miyazaki's "The Cat Returns" to the list. It's lovely.

You can't beat Studio Ghibli films. I'm trying to find copies of Howl and Totoro that aren't dubbed and can play on a Region 1 DVD player.

All of these movies are great favorites here with the young ladies. Miyazaki is an incredible and outrageously inventive director.

YAY! all are fantastic films! and I am sure we will be able to add the latest Studio Ghibli film - Ponyo on a cliff by the sea - to this list very shortly.
