My bloggy beat-down applies only to people who drive around in minivans/SUVs alone and unladen, of which there are at any given moment thousands. Unfortunately, it's quite common although less so recently than back when SUVs were considered the hotness. It was mortifying for me to see my (often childless) friends attempt to justify these gas-guzzling monstrosities by saying they might get a dog...become pregnant...have to move someday. I can't find it, but I do recall reading a traffic study that showed over 30% of minivans on the road at any given time had only one person in them. There has got to be a better way to do this, and I'm sure when it becomes expensive enough to buy gas someone will come up with it. Sigh. Yes, I’m sure. After I drop the big kids off at school, the only passengers I have with me are so short, you can't really see them from outside the car because the windows are tinted and they don't stick up beyond the headrest. In any case, I *always* have the baby with me, and she is not really visible unless the side door is open. Are you sure those minivans have only one occupant? So, maybe before you start hating on a mom alone in a minivan maybe she, like me, doesn't have a "spare" vehicle to drive when she is running errands alone - like going and buying the $200 in groceries that will be gone all too quickly to feed that many kids. When these kids are grown and gone, trust me, I'll be driving something smaller. But for now, it would be wrong to pick which kids I like the least to strap on the hood of a smaller vehicle.
