My general rule is that my children can dye their hair when they're able to pay for it. If my third grader wants to save up their allowance to splurge on getting bright orange and purple streaks? Okay.

Thanks!

Hot damn! This blogging thing is darned useful! I shall run off to Rexall and pick up a bottle ASAP. I heard something about Prell or Pert as well, but I can never keep it straight which one it was.

Try dandruff shampoo, raincoaster. I've been dying my hair red for years now, and there was a lot of trial and error before finding the perfect shade. When things have turned out more Ronald McDonald than Marcia Cross, I grab the dandruff shampoo --- the stronger, the better. It helps strip some of the colour out. Just make sure you condition really well, 'cause it's hard on your hair.

Jennie has a point; as far as I'm aware, these dyes haven't been tested on kids. But semipermanent isn't invasive, so that I would think would be fine.

We've come a long way from the days when dyeing your hair was to make yourself more sexually attractive. Now it's for self-expression and fun, and those are ageless.

But I do wish someone had told me how tenacious this damn Feria is...I'm going to have to put my head in a cyclotron to get rid of it.

I'd be too afraid of the chemicals in the dyes. What affect could they have on a growing child? Particularly permanent dyes and preteens.

My oldest had red hair. Then blue. Then back to his natural blond. Then fuschia streaks. As long as it was out of his eyes and didn't create a distraction at school, it was pretty harmless.
