Hot Mama Tip
By GlindaBlue skies ahead! Or, at least until it stops snowing and raining and whatnot.
Blue is one of the hottest colors in makeup this spring.
Unfortunately, it tends to make many women flash back to the ultra-bright blue eyeshadow that Barbie sported oh so many years ago.
But what has changed is that the new pigments, while still retaining color, are more subtle and much more wearable than ye olde neon aqua of yore.
I have always seen makeup as a way to stay on trend in a fairly cheap way without breaking the bank. So, experiment a little! Navy nail polish, a soft blue eye shadow, or a pop of blue eyeliner can complement almost any shade of skin or eye color. Spring is a good time to try something new, and why not do it with some blue?
Here are some of the best blues out there.
OPI Yoga-ta Get This Blue! is perfect for those toes!
Dior Vernis Laquer in Poison Blue is based on Dior’s popular Poison Blue perfume, and it is beeyotiful.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Deviant is one of the best out there. The blue is intense without screaming “Hi, I’m blue eyeliner!” and it goes on like buttah. Great for blue or brown eyes.
Urban Decay Eye Shadows in (from right to left) Goddess, Strip, and Mary Jane. Trust me, they look much more intense in the picture than they will on your eyes. Easy to blend and very soft in color, there is a slight shimmer to these shadows, just so you know.

Awww, come on now, these are so purty! Seriously, I’ve checked them all out in person and they are gorgeous.

Yes, they are. So gorgeous that I’ve been haunting stores looking for that exact colour of OPI nail polish for a couple of weeks now, ever since I saw Kim Kardashian wearing the hot pink I had thought so very fresh for this season. I would rather chop off my fingers than be caught dressing like her, so I immediately decided on the blue instead.

I’ve been sporting the OPI Russian Navy all winter. It’s a really deep purple-y blue that changes with the light. Love. It.

Goddess, Strip, and Mary Jane? A diety, a pole dancer, and either an innocent or a dooby? I want the job of naming this stuff!!! They must lock them in rooms, feed them booze or “Mary Jane” until they spout these gems! My kind of job!

@Jennie- These are actually pretty tame. I have a Vincent Longo lipstick called “Foolish Virgin.”

I have a couple of expensive lipglosses called “Marvin” and “Herbie.”

and you kiss with those lips…..?

actually, that remids me of a tasteless cartoon I saw yesterday. picture two female stick figures facing each other one is saying……” no I’m not wearing lip gloss, I was just rimming my husband…”
(I did warn you it was tasteless……)

I love the makeup tips. Please keep ‘em coming.
Since you like Stila, I wanted to mention that Stila’s tinted moisturizing is amazing.

@nursemyra- Are you referring to me or to raincoaster? Because I don’t know a lot of straight guys who would appreciate being kissed by “Marvin.” And you are right, that IS tasteless…
@Lisa- I’ve tried Stila’s tinted moisturizer, and I think what I didn’t like about it was the texture. Which is odd, because usually I love all things Stila. It was either that, or that I couldn’t put it underneath my eyes to cover my dark cirlces and I resented that fact.

I love the Urban Decay names. My favorites are a deep green called Mildew and a browny/grey called Stray Dog.

I’ve had no complaints about my kisses, except when I wear MAC, because it seems my men friends don’t care for chocolate! I think the masculine lip gloss is Dulux, but the printing has worn off. All I know is they were $22 apiece!

“Deity.” Unless you are worshipping weight loss, of course.

I did get the Opi and that is a FABULOUS colour, especially if you have pink undertones rather than yellow. I don’t care what Bobbi Brown says, yellow is not in my spectrum. The blue has a marvelously subtle metallic sheen and the coverage is amazing. It also lasted the better part of twelve days, with touchups.

Raincoaster, I agree with you; I appreciate Ms. Brown and her earnestness, but on me, most of her makeup looks, um, like … spackle. Not attractive spackle, either.

[…] pigmented neon makeup is a thing of the past. And deservedly so. As I stated before with the blue eye makeup, the pigmentation is lighter, although care always has to be taken in the application of such […]
