Both dresses are attractive and age-appropriate, but Miley Cyrus has been trained to pose like Lindsay Lohan looking for a companion-for-the-night at closing time, and she just cannot stop. She has better hair, and that colour is gorgeous on her, but I’m giving her the thumbs-down for making something perfectly innocent look slutty. Also: the lipstick is too much; they’ve obviously heard all the “is that girl even LEGAL? Why is she dressed like a stripper?” talk, but can’t bring themselves to tone it down as much as necessary.
Saoirse, however, desperately needs a better hairstyle. She’s got a fivehead in that ‘do.

Raincoaster, you took the words right out of my keyboard. Miley Cyrus had a great dress and a great “do, but she was advertising like an add for Bad girls R Us. Truth be told, I wasn’t nuts about the earrings either. Saorise looked totally age appropriate, but that hair! Honey, you’re gonna cut off the oxygen to your brain.

I thought Miley Cyrus looked fine. Just you wait until prom season comes around and you get a gander at what the girls are wearing. I was quite shocked when I went shopping for dresses last year with my cousin.
As for “working it,” yup….that’s what the red carpet is there for.

We must agree to disagree, I think. If they’re not old enough to legally use it, they should not be working it on the red carpet. I mean, what profession are they supposed to be in?
I have seen the horrors which are slutty prom dresses. Miss Manners, for instance, was quite overcome when asked why they came with matching garters. It’s for the pole dance on the trailer patio later, of course!

“Miss Manners, for instance, was quite overcome when asked why they came with matching garters.”
Actually it’s probably for the garter dance. My senior prom was 12 years ago and we had a garter dance then. My date was told to wear one by her mother because they had them when she went to hers decades before. Nothing new here.
Miley looked good. She was packaged well if a bit too vampy. Saoirse looked like her mother did her hair.

I think Miley looks pretty, not slutty. She looks not a thing like Lindsay Lohan. I do wonder why the hell she was even at the Oscars, though.

GARTER DANCE???
Please explain the garter dance while I step out to get some gin. I think I’m going to need it.

I never had a garter dance at my prom. I thought that was just for weddings? Is it a regional thing?
And, if you do a garter dance at your prom, do you not do it at the wedding?

Half of my graduating class had their weddings before their senior proms, but we sure as hell didn’t have any garter dances at the prom. Not one slim chance I’d let my daughter perform a vaguely fetishistic lingerie dance at the prom.

Oh hell, this gin isn’t strong enough.
Seriously, I’m fascinated now. Jaw on floor. I really, REALLY want to hear from people who had garter dances at the prom.

The answer was here at the Manolosphere all along:

I was going to respond that Mylie didn’t look age appropriate at all, but now that I’ve read the posts I realize that it’s just that she’s ‘hosin it up for the carpet/camera. She’s a beautiful girl with way too much exposure (a la Brittany). Let us hope she does not go the same way as Brit. The other girl looks lovely and age appropriate. I don’t agree that the red carpet is for “workin it” because she is still a child. The little girl from “Little Miss Sunshine” walked the carpet without “workin it” and all the CHILDREN should do the same.
