I think they're just saying it for the press. Mind you, they've got the cash and the crazy to just go for it, too. But I am the heretic in the house of the Manolo; I simply do not like Louboutins. They are NOT the most beautiful shoes out there. They are ostentatious and vulgar, so they're perfect for little Suri's big PR adventure.

In every single picture of Suri that shows her feet, she is wearing the baby equivalent of old lady orthopedic shoes, so I can't help but doubt the veracity of the story.

My instinct tells me it's wasteful nonsense. But I would hate to know that there was some random family out in California judging my parenting decisions so I'm not going to let it bother me. I've spent $40 on Preschoolians and I thought that was a bit much but obviously I went for it anyway. It's all relative.

The last two cars I bought for myself didn't add up to $2,500. (We are a household of frugal people.) While it *is* their money, it's a crazy amount to be spent on any one item for a child that age.

I say it's their money. If I had that kind of money, I don't THINK I would spend that much on a pair of shoes for someone that young, but what must people in 3rd world countries think of us and the way we consume? My friend went to Peru whilst in the Air Force quite a few years ago, and she was showing folks there some pictures of her house. They assumed she was a millionair, because she and her husband had two cars.

I'm with Leah, though, Suri will grow up awesome or insane, and perhaps both.

If the shoes pictured cost more than $20, those people got ripped off. But still, I just don't understand paying exorbitant amounts of money for something that will be used a few months at most, then tossed. Even if I had the cash, I wouldn't spend it like that.

I'm all for protecting a child's orthopedic interests as well as their super-fantasticness, but while the custom-made Louboutins in question are made from a mold of one's own feet, in adult variations they are still not your first choice if you're interested in protecting the arches. They're not going to be any more comfortable or helpful to the preservation of her bone structure than the also-ridiculously-priced alternative celebrity baby shoes she would otherwise be buying.

Also, this kid is either going to grow up awesome or totally insane. Or both, which I'm kind of rooting for.
