I'm cool with anyone who causes Sam Sullivan's deeds to come home to roost like vultures waiting for the slow death of his career.

Not that I'm opinionated.

Hmm, what would a librarians' Rapture be like? Melvil Dewey descending from the clouds with his system definitively finished, taking all the librarians back up with him to librarian heaven, where the books shelve themselves, patrons' questions are either easy or interesting, programs are fully funded, self-filling cappuccino machines are available near every desk, there are no stinky . . . um, patrons, and everyone has a fab salary, superb benefits, and no more grad-school debts.

My mother-in-law is a voracious reader and she is PO'ed with the library people. "Oh, they're just using this Olympics as an excuse to get a bigger paycheck and cushier benefits", she said to me. "Of course they are!" I said. "Wouldn't you?" (Not that I approve of holding the city hostage.) She thought for a moment, and then in her great Scots accent, said, "Ah, you're right. 'A course I would!"

Thanks. Yes, those librarians are a stroppy bunch. They're probably holed up in the Reference section, living off granola bars and waiting for the Rapture.
