They Tried to Dress It Up With A Bow, At Least

I present the perfect shoe for Daddy’s little girl to wear on that bonding trip to the duck blind.
Seriously, do people not remember that the purpose of this pattern is to avoid getting shot? Just because it is everywhere right now does not necessarily make it appropriate for children to wear.
Say it with me now, “camouflage ballet flat.” That just sounds so wrong, doesn’t it?
I think they should wear these with the Che socks in the earlier post!
Actually, I don’t get the camo thing at all. I saw Bono give a rant against war, dressed all in camo with cargo pants. And once, I was walking down the street and saw a guy all in camo, from camo shoes to camo cap. I deliberately bumped into him and said, “Oh, sorry. I didn’t see you there!”
He didn’t get it.
Oh, I’ve been looking or a pair of these. Thank you so much. Deer hunting season is just starting up and I have nothing to wear…
…and I agree. I am tired of seeing camo on everything and everybody…and then, when they make it pink. I guess that’s a good thing. If you’re going to war in the Barbie aisle of Toys R Us…which can be a pretty rough place come December.
Aaaaah, come on. Little boys have been wearing camo forever. And all of a sudden it’s on a girl’s shoe and it’s “not appropriate for children?”
Why not just say it’s not appropriate for girls?
BTW, you would wear blaze orange, not camo, to avoid getting shot while duck hunting.
Rain- Ha! I got it!
LauraH- I think I hate the pink camo most of all.
bearing- I don’t think a design that has a direct connection with shooting and war is appropriate for children. They have no idea of the implications of their clothing, but adults do. And, I did some research and saw pictures of quite the few hunters with camo underneath their vests.
bearing, I don’t know about you but, up here in Michigan, my husband wore both. Usually a camo jacket with an orange hat and hooded sweatshirt. And no, my little boy has and never will wear camo. He doesn’t hunt and he’s not going to war.
Is it me or does camo need to go? You’re right, it is a pattern for not getting shot! Now it’s offered in pink. Nice………..make it go away now.
I don’t like the camo thing but my mother does, two weeks ago while I was in Italy I bought an adult sized pair of these for her because I thought they were funny.
I’m reminded of a Thomas Hirschhorn exhibit I saw at the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. (This was before the new building, by the way.) It was a huge installation of images of war along with pop culture and fashion uses of camo. It was very thought-provoking. (Damn it’s hard to come up with descriptive adjectives.) A lot of it was funny, like the lined-up camo rubber duckies, but much of the imagery was very disturbing.
I found the use of camo for kids’ clothes to be particularly unsettling. Still do.
(Raincoaster- You’re so funny with the “didn’t see you there” bit.)
Thanks. Given the way he was dressed he coulda pulled out a musket and offed me, right there in front of the Starbucks!
I did see pink camo made up of splotches that, on closer inspection, resolved into daisies and Hello Kitty and Pokemon characters. I thought that was clever in a Pop Art kind of way. I would buy that, just to confuse people.
That is beyond wrong, Glinda my dear. Because these people will stop at nothing. If the war in Iraq goes on for any longer, we will be seeing camouflage bridal gowns. And on a more “Teeny Manolo” front… what’s next? Camouflage lunch boxes, camouflage underwear, camouflage… baby pacifiers?!!! Yes, that would be the ultimate irony.
Anyone who buys a camouflage pacifier deserves to spend most of their time on their hands and knees going “Dammit, where IS it?”
I have seen camo boy’s underwear. The mind boggles.
I don’t want my daughter to get shot…I’m going to go buy her these shoes!
You wear camo so you can shoot the duck! You wear orange to avoid getting shot!
Katie- When used in warfare, camo is used to avoid getting shot.
In hunting, camo to blend in, agreed. But camo was developed originally for war, specifically during WWII, not hunting.
